Key Highlights:-
EBIDTA for this quarter is lower mainly on account of lower sugar and distillery sales volumes due to COVID disruption. Cogen operations were lower because of shorter sugar season. Our distillery production for this quarter is the highest ever at 2.39 cr litres and lower profitability on account of lower distillery sales is temporary and will be recouped in the subsequent quarters. There is a lower export subsidy accrual in this quarter as compared to the corresponding period.

Higher depreciation is on account of change in depreciation method from SLM to WDV for sugar and distillery segments in March 2021.

During the quarter, the company has made an assessment of the impact of the New Tax Rate as per Section – 115BAA of the Income Tax Act and decided to continue with the existing tax structure until utilization of deductions and accumulated MAT credits. Accordingly, Company has re-measured its deferred tax assets and liabilities, resulting in reversal of deferred tax liability amounting to Rs. 33 cr. Consequently, PAT is almost similar to corresponding quarter.

Project updates:-
All our distillery projects under implementation for production of around 15 cr litres against existing capacity of 8 cr litres are progressing satisfactorily and expected to be completed as per the scheduled timelines barring Kolhapur distillery expansion project which may get slightly delayed due to COVID & Flood disruptions.

The board has also decided in principle to set up two grain based distilleries with a capacity of 100 KL each to produce 6 cr litres of ethanol, which is expected to be commissioned in next 15-18 months.

Long Term Debt
Long Term debt as on 30th June 2021 is at Rs. 283 cr with a healthy long term debt-equity ratio of 0.13.

Entry into B2C Segment:-
The company has decided to foray into B2C (business-to-consumer) segment and announced the launch of its packaged sugar under the brand name “Dalmia Utsav” during last quarter and sanitizer launched in the last year is being marketed under the brand name “Dalmia Sanjeevani”.

In the initial phase, we have launched sulphur-free white crystal sugar and natural brown sugar in branded packets and sachets

Going forward, the company plans to have a pan-India presence and introduce new sugar variants along with basket of other FMCG products.

Outlook of Sugar Industry:-
Fundamentals of the industry continue to improve with sugar inventory expected at 8.9 M Mt as at 30th Sept 2021 as against 10.7 M Mt as at 30th Sept 2020 mainly due to exports and diversion towards ethanol. Next year also the downward trend of sugar inventory levels is expected to continue.

Global fundamentals also are fairly good with lowest production estimates in the last 4 years. This should ease inventory overhang pressure and strengthen sugar prices. For Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries Limited

New Delhi, 15 June, 2021: Dalmia Bharat Sugar & Industries Limited plans to augment its ethanol manufacturing capacity to 15 crore litres per annum from January 2022 from 8 crore litres currently. The move is in line with the government’s decision to raise ethanol blending in auto fuels to 20% by 2025 from around 8% currently.

With this capacity expansion, Dalmia Bharat Sugar will divert around 1,50,000 tonne of sugar for ethanol production compared to 60,000 tonne now. The expansion will happen at the company’s Jawaharpur, Nigohi and Kolhapur plants. One new distillery will be set up at Ramgarh.

The company firmly believes that the recent announcement by the central government to advance an ethanol blending programme of 20% to 2025 is a step in the right direction as it will be beneficial for both: the country and the sugar manufacturers. The move will allow the industry to cut carbon emissions and reduce the outflow of foreign exchange as crude oil imports will come down. Alongside, as the government cannot provide subsidies on sugar exports after 2023 due to WTO norms, the sugar manufacturers will now be able to divert that sugar for ethanol purposes.

The sugar industry will get benefit from this move as the industry was also looking to find ways to balance sugar production with consumption as the opportunity to export will come down. The advancement of the ethanol blending programme means that in the next four to five years, the industry will be able to balance its output with consumption, which will translate into reasonable prices for the sweetener and keep inventory under control.

In the ongoing sugar season, Dalmia Bharat Sugar has exported 66KMT of sugar so far (till 31st May). The sugar exports were at 192 KMT in the previous season.

Dalmia Bharat Sugar has three sugar factories located in Uttar Pradesh (Ramgarh, Jawaharpur and Nigohi) and two in Maharashtra (Kolhapur and Sangli). As of now, the company has aggregate sugarcane crushing capacity of 34000 TCD, distillery and co-generation operation of 240 KLPD and 119 MW respectively.

● Nigohi Distillery expansion completed during the quarter and is operational at expanded capacity.
● Branded sugar launched successfully in March 2021 and the product has been well received by the market.
● Diverted around 60 KMT sugar towards ethanol during the sugar season 20-21.
● All other projects related to sugar & distillery expansion and greenfield distillery at Ramgarh are under implementation albeit possibility of few months’ delay due to pandemic.

Outlook of Sugar Industry
In SS’20 sugar inventory is lower at 10.7 M Mt as against 14.5 M Mt for SS’19 mainly due to exports and to further go down in ensuing SS to 9.2 M Mt mainly on account of higher diversion of sugar to ethanol and exports.

Sugar industry is well poised to benefit both from global and domestic factors. Tight global demand supply situation, favourable government policies and push for higher ethanol blending in India will keep the inventory under control.

In light of the above the short to medium term outlook of the industry remains promising.

Outlook of Sugar Industry:-

India Sugar inventory as on 30th Sept 20 is likely to drop to 11.3 M Mt from 14.5 M Mt as on 30th Sept 19 on the back of lower production and higher exports. However, for the upcoming year, sugar inventory is expected to increase marginally to 11.8 M MT.

Various proactive measures like increase in MSP, Export subsidy etc. are under consideration by Central Government for SS 20-21 which will be positive for the industry.

However, FRP increase, if any may partially offset the benefits of these measures.

Overall we remain cautiously optimistic for the near term prospects of the industry.
